There are several benefits to sleeping on a silk pillowcase, not least that it gives you better sleep and is less harsh on your hair!
We spend a third of our lives with our heads on a pillow, and we love a friction-free pillowcase that doesn't feel like sandpaper against the skin!
Benefits of sleeping on a silk pillowcase:
Smoother and healthier hair
Traditional pillowcases made of cotton or cotton/polyester blends have a coarser surface than silk and create friction on your hair during the night. This can result in tangles and frizzy hair. With silk pillowcases, it doesn't get as warm and you can glide around on the pillow without friction, which means you get:
- Reduced frizz
- Fewer broken hairs
- Fewer tangles
- Retained moisture and shine in your hair
Better moisture balance in hair and skin
Silk contains natural fats, unlike cotton and synthetics, which can dry out skin and hair by drawing moisture from them. You maintain your glow, and fine lines can be reduced.
Silk breathes and prevents bacterial growth
Since it is a natural material, silk breathes in a completely different way and is therefore better for your skin. You can experience reduced skin inflammation and irritation. It's a good choice for those with acne, for example.
Temperature regulating
Because silk is temperature-regulating and thus always comfortably warm, you sleep better on a silk pillowcase.
Reduces sleep wrinkles
If you're a restless sleeper, you probably often wake up with sleep wrinkles on your face; with a silk pillowcase, you minimize these.
Hypoallergenic
Silk has hypoallergenic properties unlike cotton and is naturally resistant to dust, mold, and fungi.
Long-lasting
Silk pillowcases are of good quality and therefore last longer. This makes them both cost-effective and good for the environment.
Silk pillowcases are luxurious
Nothing beats the soft and smooth feeling you get when sleeping on a 100% mulberry silk pillowcase.
Silk quality
Mulberry silk comes from the silk produced by a special silkworm, whose only food source is mulberry tree leaves. 100% mulberry silk is considered the finest silk and is also the material we use for our silk pillowcases.
Another important factor to consider is momme. Momme is a way to measure the quality of silk. Textile quality is usually based on density, but silk is so thin and consists of so many threads that it is instead measured by weight. So, the higher the momme, the higher the weight and quality. The standard for silk pillowcases is usually 12-16 momme; our silk pillowcases are 22 momme and therefore maintain good quality with a luxurious feel!
Our mulberry silk is also OEKO-TEX certified, meaning that production has taken place under good working conditions and that no harmful or environmentally hazardous chemicals have been used.
Silk stays fresh longer than other materials. Our silk pillowcases can be machine washed on a gentle cycle at 30° with an enzyme-free detergent (available at most stores).
Sleep well and wake up to a good hair day!
