ByBarb was born from a longing for hair products that actually deliver on their promises, in both quality and design.
Our story
Hanna von Schantz and Sara Svederman launched ByBarb in 2020 with a clear conviction: that hair care is more than just products in a bottle, and that the right tools, accessories, and routines can make just as much of a difference for the hair's health and expression.
Inspired by the fashion world's capsule wardrobe, the idea of the "hair capsule wardrobe" was born – a thoughtful collection of the few but essential products that truly make a difference.
Today, ByBarb offers a curated collection of hair products that transform everyday routines into empowering rituals. With the same care, curiosity, and attention to detail, we continue to create products that we hope will find a natural place in your daily life and that you will love for a long time.
Who is Barb?
Barb is a feeling rather than a person. She represents a way of taking care of your hair. Simple, conscious, and without the fuss.
It’s about the small things in everyday life. Brushing your hair with care. Drying it gently. Putting it up in a way that avoids wear and tear. Sleeping on silk and waking up with more shine.
Barb is you, who wants to take care of your hair in a beautiful and sustainable way, without having to think too much.
Sustainability
For us, sustainability is about making thoughtful choices that last over time. Creating products you want to use for a long time and that are kind to both your hair and the environment.
We work with sustainable and certified materials whenever possible, and we develop our products with a focus on quality, longevity, and timeless design.
By choosing better materials, responsible manufacturing, and fewer but better products, we want to contribute to a more sustainable everyday life without compromising on function, aesthetics, or feel.
Materials
The material is crucial to how a product feels, functions, and lasts over time. That is why we choose our materials with great care and continuously work to use more sustainable alternatives.
In our soft products, we use natural and recycled materials such as organic cotton, eco-certified silk, recycled polyamide, and deadstock fabrics.
For our hard products, we primarily work with bio-based cellulose acetate—a durable material with a long lifespan and a more sustainable origin than traditional plastic.
Circular collection
We work continuously with product development and innovation to create smarter and more sustainable products. Together with Smart Textiles at the Swedish School of Textiles in Borås, we have, for example, investigated how hair ties can be manufactured with minimal environmental impact without compromising on function and design.
The result was climate-smart hair ties made from recycled polyamide from end-of-life tires—a project that was also awarded Plaza Interiör's Honorary Prize 2025 for sustainable design.
